1000 Questions for Couples - What you absolutely must know about the one you are with!
If someone asked you how well you know your mate, what would you say? Decent? Pretty well? Does your mate ever do or say some thing that seems out of character? Perhaps you don’t know them as well as you would like to think.
This one day, years ago, I was at the bar with my girlfriend and a group of her friends. It was kind of dull, so one person suggests we play this drinking game called “I never”. Here’s the rules: you go around the table to each person and they say a statement like “I’ve never been to Disneyland.” Then everyone at the table that has been to Disneyland takes a drink. The game turns dangerous in a hurry, I don’t suggest playing it.
Anyway, after an hour of playing this I was shocked at some of the things my girlfriend admitted to. After dating her for almost a year, I thought I knew her better. After that night I started searching for questions to get to know someone better. I found the perfect book called 1000 Questions for Couples by Michael Webb. I quickly ordered it and began reading it.
The book is filled with a comprehensive list of everything you need to know about your mate. I presented the book to my girlfriend and she reluctantly agreed to go through the list of questions. We actually had a lot of fun answering the questions. There was times we were gritting our teeth at each other, but most of the time we were laughing.
Doing the questions was fun, but more importantly it strengthened our relationship. We got along a lot better after doing this.
I wish I could show some examples of the questions, but copyright laws prohibit it. It’s smart stuff though. After reading it and learning more about the author, it’s not surprising the Michael Webb has been on countless TV shows, magazines, and newspapers. He’s also written The RoMANtics Guide: Hundreds of Creative Tips for a Lifetime of Love. Also a very good book. I highly suggest reading his books.
I even use his questions in my single life. When getting to know a new girl better I use some of the questions that could be deal-breakers on my dates.
At the time of writing, Michael’s book costs $27. It might sound like a lot of money but consider this; 50% of marriages end in divorce. If you know everything you need to about your mate before getting married, which 50% will you two be in?
